SPECIAL EVENT: Declarative Database Development - Gert Drapers, Microsoft
Start Date/Time: Thursday, September 10, 2009 6:30 PM
End Date/Time: Thursday, September 10, 2009 9:00 PM
Recurring Event: One time event
Importance: Normal Priority
Description:
Models everywhere! The drive towards more model driven development technologies such as LINQ to SQL and Entity Data Model, can also be applied to how one manages and deploys its database schema, through a model instead of via a physical implementation script. The Visual Studio Database Edition product is the first major step towards a true declarative database development environment. This session will cover the pros and cons and future directions around this topic, including how you can use VSDB to automate the deployment of your database schema and integrate in to your own "database setup".

Gert Drapers is a Software Architect at Microsoft Corp, where he is working on the next generation directory services in the Identity and Security division. Before his current role he was the Lead Software Architect and Engineering Manager of the Visual Studio Team System Database Edition product, where he designed and developed the Declarative Database Development tooling which is shipping inside Visual Studio. Since joining Microsoft in 1991 Gert worked on various parts and releases of Microsoft SQL Server and the Transaction Management infrastructure (MS-DTC, WS-AtomicTransaction and System.Transactions).
