Reducing Data Integration TCO - Best Practices for SQL Server 2012 - Larry Barnes, BlueMetal
Start Date/Time: Thursday, June 14, 2012 6:30 PM
End Date/Time: Thursday, June 14, 2012 9:00 PM
Recurring Event: One time event
Importance: Normal Priority
Description:
The reality of today’s Business Intelligence solutions is that on-going integration Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is often 3-10x the cost of the original implementation. This is due to a combination of factors including: data quality issues, the lack of a master data foundation and worst practices when implementing data integration solutions. The day to day costs of supporting sub-optimal data integration solutions often result in less resources for strategic initiatives and ultimately employee burnout.

This first part of this session reviews Data integration today, common worst practices and how to replace them with best practices. The remainder focuses on how to combine best practices with the Master Data Services and Data Quality Services components of SQL Server 2012 to produce data integration solutions that minimize on-going TCO.

Larry Barnes is a Principal Architect with BlueMetal Architects and has been working with SQL Server since it first shipped in 1989. Larry is well known within the Microsoft BI community, has deep expertise across the entire Microsoft BI stack, with a particular focus on Data Integration. His ETL Framework (etlframework.codeplex.com) has been well received by the user community.
